The high-level playback lifecycle of the PRIMARY media element, derived from its native HTMLMediaElement events.

    • idle — no source / nothing happening yet.
    • loading — initial fetch of the source (post-loadstart, pre-canplay); the stage shows a "Loading…" indicator.
    • buffering — ran out of buffered data mid-playback, or seeking into un-buffered territory (e.g. a ±30s skip or a scrub); the stage shows "Buffering…".
    • ready — enough data buffered to play, but not currently playing (post-canplay, paused at position).
    • playing — actively playing.
    • paused — user-paused (distinct from ready, which is "ready but never started / stopped at end-of-buffer").
    • ended — playback reached the end of the media.
    • error — the element raised an error (unplayable source, decode failure, etc.).
